CONCORD, N.C. -- Tony Stewart arrived at Lowe's Motor Speedway a few minutes after 5 p.m. after finishing sixth in the Indy 500. He will now run in the Winston Cup's Coca-Cola 600 which gets under way at the Concord, N.C., track at 5:45 p.m.
Stewart was one of only seven drivers to finish on the lead lap at Indy. Stewart's time to make it to tonight's race was extremely limited due to a rain delay and several extensive caution periods.
Helio Castroneves won the Indy 500, followed by his teammate, Gil de Ferran. Both cars are owned by Roger Penske, owner of the NASCAR Winston Cup teams of Rusty Wallace and Jeremy Mayfield.
Stewart also ran the Indy-Charlotte double during his WInston Cup rookie season of 1999. He finished ninth at Indianapolis before jetting to Charlotte, where he finished fourth.
