DOVER, Del. -- Jeremy Mayfield made hard contact with the Turn 1 wall on lap 55 of Sunday's MBNA Cal Ripken Jr. 400 and lost consciousness for a moment.

Mayfield released from hospital

For precautionary measures, he was transported to nearby Bay Health Medical Center. He was later released. Mayfield didn't suffer a concussion, but he was treated for a chipped tooth and bruises on his right shoulder and side.

The right-front tire went down on his No. 12 Ford before it veered toward the wall. Peter Sopenzo, his crew chief, said the car was tight just before the incident occurred.
