CONCORD, N.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Inc., spokesman Steve Crisp said Wednesday afternoon that Steve Park will undoubtedly be in the No. 1 Chevrolet by Speedweeks 2002 at Daytona, but was unsure if he would return before that.

“We’re certain he’ll be in the car by Daytona,” Crisp said. “We just want to make sure he’s fully healed. He’s been a very important part of this company since we went Winston Cup racing. He was our first Winston Cup driver full time.
“He’s a very valued member of the DEI family. He will be completely healed before he comes back. Everybody here’s behind him.”
Park is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation after suffering a concussion during a freak accident in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 1. During a caution, Park’s No. 31 Chevrolet suddenly steered left down the race track and was intersected by Larry Foyt’s Chevrolet.
Crisp said all involved at DEI expect a full recovery from the two-time Winston Cup race winner.
“We have been assured Steve will make a 100 percent recovery,” Crisp said. “We want to be sure that the healing process is totally completed before we rush him back to work. We all eagerly anticipate his return.
“Ty (Norris, DEI vice president of motorsports) talked to him yesterday. He’s actually doing really well. He’s a little bit ahead of schedule.”
