On a brilliantly sunlit, crisp Northeast Pennsylvania day Tuesday, about 1,000 family, friends and associates laid Alexander, 25, to rest in a cemetery close by his home, overlooking a tree-covered mountain range near Williamsport, Pa.
A memorial service for the former NASCAR Busch Series driver will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Charlotte, N.C.
Services for Alexander, a former karting champion who was striving to develop a stock car racing career, were attended by NASCAR and ARCA car owners including Felix Sabates, Joe Falk and Bob Schacht; a number of ARCA officials including president Ron Drager; and numerous drivers, including Kerry Earnhardt.
Alexander suffered fatal head injuries in a two-car accident last Thursday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., while racing for the lead in the ARCA RE/MAX Series EasyCare 100. Earnhardt, who crashed with Alexander, was uninjured.
The Alexander family has asked that no flowers be sent, but instead that those wishing to help make a charitable donation to:
The Blaise Alexander Jr. Memorial; Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast Pennsylvania; 515 Sandhill Rd.; Montoursville, PA 17754 (800-489-9474).
