MARTINSVILLE, Va. - NASCAR Winston Cup Series teams must use the same engine to qualify and race during the 2002 season, the sanctioning body announced Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
In the event the engine used to qualify the car does not start the race, then at the desretion of the Winston Cup Series director, the starting position will be relinquished and the car will drop to the rear of the field prior to the start of the race.
According to NASCAR, certain events during the 2002 season may require ammendments to this rule, such as the Gatorade Twin 125-mile qualifying races and the Coca-Cola 600, due its length.
