TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s winning car failed post-race inspection following Sunday's EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The car was measured as being an eighth-inch under the required 51-inch minimum height from the roof of the car to the ground, NASCAR spokeswoman Danielle Humphrey announced some two hours following the conclusion of the 188-lap event.

She also said Earnhardt Jr. did not jump on the roof during his Victory Lane celebration.

"In situations like this in the past, NASCAR has let the winner keep the win, but assessed heavy penalties, both money and points," said Jim Hunter, NASCAR vice president for corporate communications.
