The Buzz: July 19, 2001

July 19, 2001
6:49 PM EDT (2249 GMT)

The Buzz learned Thursday that Mark Green is going to try his hand at Winston Cup racing - hopefully very soon.

"I am actually still with Davis & Weight Motorsports and we are going to run four Winston Cup races in the near future," said Green. "We were looking at going to Indianapolis (Aug. 4), but now we are concentrating on the short track stuff. We will probably enter our first Cup race at either Bristol (Aug. 25) or Richmond (Sept. 8)."

Green said he will drive the No. 81 Ford at those four Cup events, and he and the team are working on getting sponsorship deals.

BERRIER TO FILL IN FOR HARVICK

When the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series heads to Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., next week, Kevin Harvick will be one busy man.

He will travel back and forth 4,196 miles by airplane so he can compete in both the NAPA AutoCare 250 (July 28) at PPIR and the Cup event - the Pennsylvania 500 (July 29) at Long Pond, Pa.

However, because Harvick's schedule is so hectic, The Buzz has learned that Ed Berrier will qualify his No. 2 AC Delco Chevrolet Friday at PPIR.

Harvick will then return for the race which is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. MDT Saturday at PPIR.

Berrier has 248 career Busch starts, including one win at Hickory, (N.C.) Motor Speedway in 1998.
