The Buzz has learned that Elvis Presley, who passed away 24 years ago today, could be making a return engagement on Rusty Wallace's car. The event is expected to be next year in conjunction with the Silver Anniversary of Elvis' passing.
During the 20th anniversary of the King of Rock n' Roll's death in 1997, Action Performance and Wallace rolled out a special promotional No. 2 Ford with Elvis on the hood, guitars on the side and piano keys on the car. Wallace has commented that it was by far the most successful promotion he has ever taken part in.
Wallace wore a special Elvis themed drivers suit to mark the occasion, as well.
RETURN OF THE NO. 3?
The Buzz has learned that Richard Childress Racing could be bringing back the No. 3 Chevrolet. Formerly driven and made famous by the late Dale Earnhardt, it has not been in competition since the seven-time champion's death in the Daytona 500.
Allegedly, the design has already been finished; but the No. 3 will have a different look and design than the car Earnhardt drove. The design is rumored to already have been approved by Dale Earnhardt Inc., Chevrolet and Richard Childress Racing.
Since the season's second race at Rockingham, Kevin Harvick has competed in a white No. 29 Chevrolet with Goodwrench Plus on board. If the No. 3 came back, it wouldn't be until next year in time for the Daytona 500.
THE FAMILY BUSINESS
The Buzz has also learned that Kelley Earnhardt, daughter of Dale Earnhardt from his second marriage, will be moving from her current position at Action Performance to join the staff of Dale Earnhardt Inc. The eldest daughter of the champion, she has been with Action in a management position for the past few years.
It is believed she will be working with DEI in a marketing and/or promotional capacity. An announcement is expected in the next week or so.
