With Kevin Lepage and Jeremy Mayfield vacating rides this week, the domino effect may already be taking place, at least on a short-term basis.

The Buzz: October 3, 2001

Now that Mike Wallace is taking over the No. 12 car, Lepage could end up in the No. 7 this weekend.

And if Jimmy Spencer does leave the No. 26 Ford team at the end of the season as rumored, he could be working out a deal with Chip Gannasi Racing for 2002. If not there, he's a prime candidate to grab the No. 12 seat for next season.

And if Spencer goes to Ganassi, then Ward Burton may be headed to the No. 12.

THIS POLICE CAR BROUGHT TO YOU BY ...

The town board of Mooresville, N.C., home of several NASCAR teams, voted this week to ask NASCAR corporate sponsors to donate patrol cars.

According to the Associated Press, the cruisers would be clearly marked as police cars, but they also would have the sponsor's name and the race team number on the exterior.

Captain Leon White said having the cars donated would allow each officer to have a car without extra expense to the town. The cruisers cost about $30,000 apiece.

The plan must also be approved by NASCAR.
