HAAS-CARTER SET FOR ANNOUNCEMENT ON NO. 26

The Buzz: Oct. 22, 2001

The Buzz has learned that Haas-Carter Motorsports will make an official announcement regarding its new driver for the No. 26 Ford in Atlanta on the weekend of Nov. 17-18.

The second-to-last race of the year will be where the team formally announces that Joe Nemechek will take over for the departing Jimmy Spencer. Spencer, who had been with the team since 1998, has already notified them that he will be driving somewhere else next year.

Speculation continues to put Spencer in the Chip Ganassi Racing stable for next year. Rumors abound that Jason Leffler may be looking for another ride if that were to happen. Other reports have Leffler taking over the No. 2 Dodge in the Craftsman Truck Series next year.

The No. 2 Truck Series team is owned by Jim Smith and he is losing Scott Riggs to the No. 10 Ford of ppc Racing in the Busch Series. Leffler has made a handful of appearences in the Craftsman Truck Series and already has a relationship with ASE, the current sponsor of Smith's No. 2 Ultra Motorsports team Dodge.
