Marshall Teague

NASCAR Winston Cup Career: 1949-52

February 6, 2002
10:57 PM EST (0357 GMT)

One of NASCAR's pioneers, Teague enjoyed his best season in 1951, winning five of his career seven NASCAR Winston Cup wins. His first series win came on the Daytona Beach Road Course in 1951 and he won on the beach again in 1952 when the event was shortened by the incoming tide. He competed in one of the famed "Fabulous Hudson Hornets." Known as the "King of the Beach," Teague was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association's Hall of Fame at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in 1968. He was fatally injured while making a closed course speed record attempt at the newly opened Daytona International Speedway in 1959.
