Biffle-Harvick feud re-ignited after wreck

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Kevin Harvick vs. Greg Biffle II: The rumble in Thunder Valley. Now playing on a television near you.

It didn’t take long for Biffle and Harvick to renew their volatile relationship -- all of 241 laps, to be exact.

While vying for the same piece of real estate Saturday in the Channellock 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Biffle tapped the left rear quarter panel of Harvick’s Chevy, sending him hard into the outside wall and demolishing a brand-new racecar.

After coming to a stop on the frontstretch, Harvick hopped out of his ride and made a beeline towards Randy Goss, Biffle’s crew chief.

He offered up a warning to Goss, then expounded on it to an entire television audience:

“I’ve always said Greg Biffle was a good guy, but he’s the most impatient thing I’ve ever seen,” Harvick said. “I will be waiting for him when he gets (out of the car).”

He wasn’t kidding.

Harvick stood atop his pit box anxiously awaiting Biffle’s exit from the Grainger Ford. Upon that exit, a furious Harvick met Biffle at the door. The two had a heated exchange, which quickly turned into a large mosh pit of crewmembers and television cameras before NASCAR officials broke the melee up.

The crowd of 100,000 roared when the two went face-to-face amidst the sea of people trying to pull them apart.

“My side of the story is pretty apparent -- I let Greg Biffle get away with some stuff last year, and he comes and just rams me in the ass, ruins my brand new car,” Harvick said. “I ain’t gonna leave without telling him how I feel. That’s Biffle for ya. Biffle’s an idiot, that’s for sure.”

Biffle was apologetic.

“I didn’t do it on purpose,” said Biffle, who moved into the series points lead Saturday. “That’s just racin’ at Bristol. There will be some fans mad at me. I feel bad. I didn’t do that on purpose. I was on the receiving end at Richmond when it was a racing deal. It’s just a racing deal here, too.”

The two have a storied history. Last season, they nearly came to blows after an accident at New Hampshire. Likewise in the first Richmond race. Still yet, in the media they always managed to laugh it off.

Jeff Green, Saturday’s race-winner and someone who has engaged in heated battles with both Biffle and Harvick in the past, offered up a trite explanation.

“When two hard heads meet, something’s bound to happen,” Green said. “They’ll both tell you they’re hard-headed. I’m not saying anything behind their backs.”
