DOVER, Del. -- Jeff Green was the top Busch Series qualifier for the third time this season when he ran a lap of 155.347 mph at Dover International Speedway.
Green's red and white No. 21 Rockwell Chevrolet toured the one-mile concrete track in 23.174 seconds.
"I was pretty confident (the speed) would hold up," Green said. "If we can stay out of trouble, we've got the car to get the job done and I like our chances of winning."
Green won the fall Busch event at Dover in 2000.
Bobby Hamilton Jr., who nearly won this event in 2001 before a late-race accident, took the second front-row spot with a lap of 154.739 mph.
"We missed the track and ended up second," Hamilton Jr. said. "You can't complain when your call is ill-handling and you end up where we did."
Greg Biffle, still sore from his accident at Nazareth two weeks ago, was third at 154.017 mph. Jamie McMurray qualified a career-high fourth at 153.905 mph.
David Green, subbing for the injured Johnny Benson in the No. 31 Whelen Chevy, was seventh. Defending champion Jimmy Spencer was 10th. Points leader Jason Keller was 11th.
Only 43 cars attempted time trials on Friday.
