Biffle's point lead shrinks after hard hit

MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Busch Series points leader Greg Biffle looked like he was going to run away with the Sam's Club 250 on Sunday.

Instead, the only running Biffle did was escaping a burning No. 60 Grainger Ford left damaged against the outside wall of Turn 2 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

While leading the race on lap 203, Biffle was making his way around the lapped car of Lowell Bennett. The two were running side-by-side with Biffle to the outside when contact occurred.

Biffle spun to the right as the car snapped around, making heavy contact with the outside wall. A small fire erupted under the engine compartment as Biffle climbed out of the car and onto the wall.

He then jumped on the roof before descending to the deck lid and then onto solid ground. Biffle walked away unhurt, but his points lead over Jason Keller was most definitely wounded.

"The car was so good and I was thinking I had to make a mistake or get caught in the pits to lose this thing," Biffle said. "But I never thought I'd wreck."

"This was a championship run, by far. I can't say enough about the guys because that was an unbelievably good car."

Instead of pulling away from Keller, whom he led by 168 points before the start of Sunday's race, Biffle's lead shrank to 106. Even though he gained ground on Biffle, Keller wished it would have come in another manner.

"Well, I wished I'd have done it a different way," Keller said. "I hate it for Greg. I don't know what happened, I heard he got taken out by a lapped car.

"He sure had our butts kicked. They did what they needed to do coming in here by sitting on the pole and leading laps.

"We weren't really charging to the front, so we need to get a lot better."
