The Buzz: July 3, 2002

Elliott Sadler will be heading for Robert Yates Racing in 2003, but not at the expense of Ricky Rudd's ride.

Instead, the Buzz has learned Sadler could acquire M&M's sponsorship and become a teammate to Rudd and Dale Jarrett at RYR. Sadler had been the focus of several rumors since he was released from his contract with Wood Brothers Racing earlier this season. M&M's is currently on the No. 36 Pontiac of Kenny Schrader.

In addition, Peter Sospenzo may be considered for the top wrench position on the new team. Sospenzo led the No. 12 Ford owned by Penske Racing and driven by Jeremy Mayfield and then Mike Wallace until it ceased operation at the end of last year.

Yates currently houses the No. 28 and 88 Ford operations in two different locations in the Charlotte, N.C., area and putting another team in any of those two shops would not be feasible. Eel River Racing ceased operation last year after moving into a brand-new shop in Mooresville, N.C., and word is that RYR may purchase the building and use it for the third team.

Rumors had it that Stacker 2 was going to go with Sadler to sponsor the car wherever he went, but they are already locked in with Kenny Wallace for his Busch Series ride and might venture into Winston Cup with him for a few races.
