FONTANA, Calif. -- Greg Biffle’s debut weekend in the Winston Cup Series is off to quite a fast start.
Biffle’s unsponsored Ford was the fastest car in Happy Hour practice Saturday, rounding the two-mile California Speedway oval in 39.821 seconds at 180.809 mph. Biffle’s teammate, young Kurt Busch, ranked second on the speed chart after qualifying on the outside of the front row Friday.
Kyle Petty continues an impressive resurgence. After posting his first top-10 finish since 1999 last week at Talladega, Petty posted the third quickest time in Happy Hour Saturday. Terry Labonte was fourth, followed by 2000 California winner Jeremy Mayfield. Dale Jarrett was sixth and Jimmie Johnson seventh.
Bud Pole winner Ryan Newman ranked 17th Saturday.
