Despite the bruise, Earnhardt Jr. will test at the .750-mile Lakeland (Fla.) Speedway on Tuesday. The Winston Cup Series will be at Richmond on Saturday.
Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet, hit the outside wall in Turn 4 after making contact with the No. 29 Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick. Harvick said he had cut a left-rear tire and was trying to get out of the way when Earnhardt Jr. struck his car.
The impact sent Earnhardt Jr.’s car into the wall left-side first. The car slid to the infield grass area before medical personnel got to the car.
He was taken to infield medical center at the track and was released after a thorough observation.
“Dale Jr. is fine,” said Ty Norris, Executive Vice President at DEI and spotter for the No. 8 Chevy team. “He has a bruise on his right foot near his ankle. We got back late last night and he was here this morning at 8:30 a.m. in the shop.
“Tomorrow, we are going to test and he said he’s good to go.”
