RICHMOND, Va. -- Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 97 Rubbermaid/Sharpie Ford, and Dale Jarrett, driver of the No. 88 UPS Ford, damaged their primary cars in separate incidents during the first Winston Cup practice session at Richmond International Raceway on Friday morning.
Busch, currently second in points, spun coming out of Turn 4 of the .75-mile track and damaged the left-rear quarter panel of the car. The incident occurred about halfway into the two-hour session.
The team immediately began readying the backup car so they could get some practice laps in before qualifying at 3:05 p.m. ET.
Approximately 20 minutes after Busch's accident, Jarrett spun coming out of Turn 4. When his car spun around, the entire left side was damaged and both tires were flattened before the car came to rest near the start/finish line.
Before the wreck, Jarrett was 35th on the practice chart.
