Trivia: Joe Gibbs

Joe Gibbs made the transition from the NFL to NASCAR quite successfully.

After winning three Super Bowls as head coach of the Washington Redskins, Gibbs became a Winston Cup owner in 1992.

Joe Gibbs Racing includes two cars in Winston Cup, one in Busch Grand National and two in the Craftsman Truck Series.

His two Winston Cup drivers -- Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart -- have both finished in the top 10 in each of the past three seasons. This includes a championship for Labonte in 2000, and second-place finishes for Labonte (1999) and Stewart (2001).

Labonte drives the familiar No. 18 Interstate Batteries-sponsored Pontiac, while Stewart drives the No. 20 Home Depot-sponsored Pontiac.

Gibbs scaled down his Busch team to one car for 2002, with Mike McLaughlin sitting behind the wheel of the No. 18 MBNA-sponsored Pontiac. His sons J.D. (No. 48) and Coy (No. 20) drive in the Truck Series.

Joe Gibbs Racing has been in the news lately for other reasons. While it had not been made official, it is believed that the team will switch from Pontiac to Chevrolet for the 2003 season.
