Injured R. Gordon will still drive at Pocono

LONG POND, Pa. -- Robby Gordon will drive in Sunday's Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway despite suffering sprained ankles Saturday afternoon in a motocross incident.

Gordon suffered two sprained ankles after jumping a hill at Traxx Motorsports Park at Jack Frost Ski Resort -- a complex about 10 miles from Pocono Raceway -- on his Honda CRF450 motocross bike. He was with some of the Richard Childress Racing team members at the time and was immediately evaluated by park physicians.

Dr. Jay Golding, RCR team physician, evaluated Gordon Sunday morning and concurred with the Traxx Motorsports Park physicians that Gordon sprained both ankles. Gordon's left ankle was injured more severely than his right ankle, Dr. Golding said.

The doctor plans to place an air cast on Gordon's left ankle and wrap the right ankle in an ACE bandage for the 500-mile race.

Childress, Gordon and crew chief Kevin Hamlin will make a final decision following Sunday's event about whether or not Gordon will test Monday and Tuesday at the Watkins Glen International road course in upstate New York for the Aug. 11 Sirius at The Glen event.
