Havoline cancels announcement

CONCORD, N.C. -- ChevronTexaco, parent company for current Robert Yates Racing sponsor Havoline, has canceled a press conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The announcement was to announce Havoline's future in Winston Cup racing.

The cancellation is the latest episode in an ongoing speculative saga regarding the sponsor.

Everything from an inability for Ricky Rudd and Chip Ganassi Racing to find common ground on contract terms -- mainly length -- to Havoline insisting that the No. 28 go with them from Yates to Ganassi, has been mentioned.

Havoline's deal with Yates goes through the end of the 2003 season.

The statement announcing the event's cancellation, sent out at 10:45 p.m. ET Monday, assured that members of the NASCAR media would be advised of further developments.
