CONCORD, N.C. -- Because of heavy rains on Friday morning, the postponed Bud Pole Qualifying from Thursday night for the UAW-GM Quality 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway has been canceled altogether, with the lineup for Sunday's race being set by owner points.

Qualifying was to resume at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, but the rain was coming down so hard there would not have been enough to fit the session in, and run the remaining scheduled activities. As of 8 a.m., the Busch Series qualifying scheduled for 1 p.m. is still on the schedule.

That leaves Kerry Earnhardt out of the race for the second week in a row because of weather conditions. Also going home will be Jack Sprague, Ron Hornaday, Carl Long, Scott Wimmer and Kirk Shelmerdine.

But, it was good news for Brett Bodine and Stacy Compton. They were two of the 18 drivers who did make qualifying runs Thursday night. Bodine didn't feel like his qualifying speed was going to get him in the race and Compton crashed the No. 49 Dodge during his run.

It was even better news for Tony Stewart. He will inherit the top-starting spot because the No. 20 Pontiac team is first in points. Starting outside of him will be Mark Martin. Jimmie Johnson and fellow rookie Ryan Newman will occupy the second row.

Jamie McMurray,Rusty Wallace, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott and Ricky Rudd will round out the top-10 spots.
