HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- On the eve of the finale of what has to be a somewhat disappointing NASCAR season, three-team Winston Cup owner Richard Childress said additional changes might be in the works for his race teams.
Heading into Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Richard Childress Racing's three teams are 18th (driver Jeff Green), 20th (Robby Gordon) and 22nd (Kevin Harvick) in the Winston Cup driver standings.
The teams have actually improved slightly over last season, with one win, 10 top-fives and 19 top-10s in 2002, compared to three wins, seven top-fives and 20 top-10s in 2001.
"There will be personnel changes," Childress said. "We're going to be shifting a lot of people around, moving a lot of people.
"We've got to work on getting the right fix and the best people we can in all those positions."
Childress made one wholesale change already this season in June, when he switched the crews -- including crew chiefs -- of Harvick and Gordon.
Busch Series champion crew chief Harold Holly of ppc Racing recently visited RCR's complex but decided not to go to work there.
Some speculation has surrounded crew chief Todd Berrier and Green, who work together on the No. 30 AOL Chevrolet, and Childress indicated the changes could come very soon.
