Zelasko's season ends in Atlanta

March 7, 2002
10:05 AM EST (1505 GMT)

With issues surrounding labor and contraction dominating headlines this baseball off-season, FOX Sports' Jeanne Zelasko has been consumed with similar concerns.

The magnetic NASCAR on FOX pit reporter, who also serves as the host of FOX's major league baseball coverage, is entering the eighth month of pregnancy and due to give birth to her first child in mid-April.

Despite thoroughly enjoying her experience as the first female TV pit reporter in history -- and a standing offer from FOX prerace analyst and former crew chief Jeff Hammond to deliver the little one if necessary -- Sunday's Atlanta 500 Winston Cup race will be her last of the season.

Afterwards she will travel home to California and await the miracle of life alongside her husband, Curt Sandoval, himself a television sports reporter for the ABC affiliate in Los Angeles.

"Curt has told me that it's time to come home," Zelasko said. "He wants to make sure that he meets our first baby before Darrell Waltrip does."

NASCAR on FOX coverage begins Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET.
