CONCORD, N.C. -- Casey Atwood hopes to make his first start in the NASCAR Busch Series in three years in Saturday's CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
FitzBradshaw Racing has entered Atwood, 22, in a No. 82 Chevrolet that will race as a team car to Kerry Earnhardt's No. 12 Supercuts Chevrolet.
Atwood has not raced in the Busch Series since the 2000 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, when he started 34th and finished 20th in his last appearance for Brewco Motorsports.
Since then the Antioch, Tenn., driver has worked for Evernham Motorsports in the Winston Cup Series in 2001 and for Evernham/Ultra Motorsports in 2002 until he was released late in the season.
Atwood has been trying to get a full-time ride in any of NASCAR's top series, and has a one-off appearance scheduled in a car for Evernham in the Winston Cup race next month at Pocono Raceway.
Atwood, who has 76 career Busch Series starts, competed regularly in the series for two years, with a best championship finish of eighth in 2000. He has two wins, six top-fives and 18 top-10s and scored the first of six career Bud Poles as a 17-year-old, at his hometown Nashville Speedway USA.
