Compton sets record to take Kentucky Bud Pole

Stacy Compton set a track record Friday to take the Bud Pole for Saturday Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway.

Compton, who clocked in at 30.615 seconds/176.384 mph, beat the record set by Scott Riggs one year ago of 174.831/30.887.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. qualified second at 30.693/174.402 and David Green was third at 30.964/174.396.

This is Compton's first career Busch Series Bud Pole Award and it comes in his 51st career start. He qualified second last month at Nazareth before finishing eighth behind winner Ron Hornaday.

It's also Compton's sixth top-five start this season.

Hornaday and points leader Scott Riggs rounded out the top five, followed by Shane Hmiel, Kasey Kahne, David Stremme and Scott Wimmer in the top 10.
