CONCORD, N.C. -- Scott Riggs, currently one the most prevalent names in the Winston/Nextel Cup rumor mill, said Saturday that he's yet to make a final decision regarding his future employer.
He did say, however, that all opportunities presented him have come from Cup organizations.
"I'm still talking to several teams," said Riggs, who currently drives the ppc Racing No. 10 Ford in the NASCAR Busch Series. "I still have not made my decision."
MB2/MBV Motorsports general manager Jay Frye admitted Thursday that his organization has talked with Riggs, and some recent reports say Riggs has already signed. But both parties maintain they're still weighing options.
"We've talked to him, yeah, but we're talking with a lot of people," Frye said Thursday.
Riggs, 32, is in his second year of NASCAR Busch Series competition. His current team, ppc Racing, has yet to sign sponsorship for either of its teams for next year.
"I'm working close with the teams, but I'm not working with any teams that are putting any pressure on me," Riggs said. "If they were, that might rush me into making my decision pretty quick. But right now everybody's really patient and they want to do what's right, just like I do."
Until this weekend, Riggs hadn't heard much from the media regarding his plans for 2004. But suddenly, he's the main attraction in the Silly Season circus.
"It seems like there's been all kinds of rumors flying about my future in Cup racing and no one's really asked me a lot about them, or gotten too out of shape about them, until now," Riggs said.
"All the sudden, at Charlotte, it seems like everybody expects people to announce where they're going to be. That's just not the case. Until the deal's done, it's not done. Right now, as it stands, all of my opportunities are in Cup."
