Win comes in 200th race in series history

MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Ted Musgrave denied Jon Wood his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory with a late pass to win Saturday's O'Reilly 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

The win came in the 200th race in the Craftsman Truck Series. Musgrave is the sixth different winner in six Memphis races.

It was also the first-ever Craftsman Truck Series win for Dodge at Memphis.

Musgrave overhauled Wood on the 187th of 200 lap, taking the lead in Turn 2 of the .75-mile oval after the pair's trucks touched briefly.

Defending O'Reilly 200 winner Travis Kvapil nearly caught Musgrave's No. 1 Dodge on the final lap to trail by .115 second -- a truck length -- at the checkered flag.

It was the second time Kvapil has finished second in 2003, and both times, the race was a near photo-finish.

He was edged out at Daytona by Rick Crawford, and he nearly caught Musgrave at the finish in Memphis.

Dennis Setzer, the 2001 O'Reilly winner, came from the back of the field to take third, also in a Chevrolet. Wood was fourth, ahead of Roush Racing teammate Carl Edwards.

"The 50 truck (Wood) was really good," Musgrave said. "I broke a sweat there. He blocked low, then high and we hooked a little bit. That's short-track racing. I'd do the same thing."

The win was the second of the season and 12th career for Musgrave, who averaged a race record 86.097 mph.

The win was particularly sweet for Ultra Motorsports owner Jimmy Smith, the only owner to have fielded a truck in all 200 series races.

Smith's team has won 28 times -- matching the all-time win total of Roush Racing.

Bobby Hamilton, who finished seventh, holds an 84-point championship lead over Kvapil with eight of 25 races complete.

Hamilton is the only driver to finish in the top 10 in every race this season.

Musgrave led 102 of the 200 laps. His strongest challenger was Wood, who led the early going but faded at the finish. Wood led 62 laps, including the first 20.

Chad Chaffin started second and was strong early, but his engine let go on lap 76. In all, 10 of the 36 starters failed to finish.

Six drivers swapped the lead 10 times. Seven caution flags slowed the field for 37 laps.
