HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Earning the pole position and winning a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race requires a complete team effort. That's why series sponsor Craftsman has posted a "Win from the Pole" bonus.
Any NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team that wins a race from the pole will be awarded a $10,000 bonus by Craftsman.
From the person who fills the gas tank to the person who pushes the gas pedal, it takes hard work from every person on the team to run up front and put the truck in victory lane at the end of the race.
With Winston Cup regular Jimmy Spencer's dominant performance on Saturday at New Hampshire International Speedway, the No. 2 Team ASE/Carquest Racing team was awarded the $10,000 Craftsman "Win from the Pole" bonus.
Spencer's win marked the first time the Craftsman "Win from the Pole" bonus has been awarded in 2003. The $10,000 will be given to the No. 2 crew.
"We are thrilled to be the first team to win the Craftsman "Win from the Pole" bonus for the first time in a long time," said Marty Houston, truck chief for the No. 2 team. "It was a total team effort, and Jimmy did a great job behind the wheel. We appreciate everything that Craftsman does to support this Series. Hopefully we can go to California and to the same thing next week."
The No. 2 Team ASE/Carquest Racing team is the 21st NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team to be awarded the "Win from the Pole" bonus since the award's inception four years ago. The bonus was awarded 10 times in 2000, six in 2001 and four in 2002.
It has been 21 races since the last "Win from the Pole" bonus was won. The last team to be awarded the bonus was the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Racing Team at Las Vegas in 2002.
"This Craftsman award is for the whole team, not just the driver," said Touré Claiborne, Sears motorsports marketing manager. "Being on the pole and winning the race is a total team effort. The driver has to find the line around the track, but the team – the people who use our Craftsman tools – must give him a fast, reliable truck."
