Labonte to have Hulk on his side at Michigan

From Team Press Release June 12, 2003
11:32 AM EDT (1532 GMT)

PHOENIX -- To coincide with the summer film release of "The Hulk," which hits theaters on Friday, June 20, Action Performance

Companies, in cooperation with Marvel Enterprises Inc. and Universal Pictures, is showcasing the Hulk via a series of race car paint schemes appearing in the NASCAR, National Hot Rod Association, Indy Racing League and World of Outlaws circuits.

Each race car will highlight a distinct vision of Hulk, the unstoppable engine of destruction and power spawned from gamma-ray nuclear energy. This weekend, Hulk will smash and bash his way into the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, where he will join 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup champion Bobby Labonte.

Labonte is driving the mean, green No. 18 Interstate Batteries/Hulk Chevrolet Monte Carlo machine as part of the 400-mile event at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday.

When the Hulk program initially was announced in March, Action Performance Companies Chairman, President and CEO Fred Wagenhals noted: "The Hulk character has long been a favorite among comic book collectors and fans, and, even after 40 years, the Hulk shows little signs of slowing down. Bringing the Hulk to different racetracks and circuits is our way of giving a special treat to those long-time race fans who are looking forward to the summer release of the Universal Pictures film "The Hulk."

"Though Hulk can be destructive at times, I expect that the controlled chaos of a racetrack will be the ideal scenario to capitalize on Hulk's menacing nature."
