DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Finally, some competition. Ride with Jimmie Johnson as he prepares for his first career Budweiser Shootout.

Sunday, Feb. 9

7 a.m. Wake up

7:05 a.m. Shower and prepare to depart for the track

7: 45 a.m. Leave for the track

8 a.m. Arrive at Daytona International Speedway

8:45 a.m. Change into fire suit

9:15 - 11:15 a.m. Winston Cup Series practice

Johnson: "We weren't that fast in our first practice. We posted the 36th fastest speed."

Noon Drive to the airport and pick up my girlfriend

1:40 - 3:30 p.m. Winston Cup Series practice

Johnson: "We only went out for one run, but we made it worth our time. We posted the fifth fastest time in practice. It really boosted our spirits and we feel we should be in the top 10 and hopefully compete for the front row.

"We have a late draw for qualifying, which is the exact opposite of what we had last season when we took the pole, so we'll just have to see."

4 p.m. Photo shoot with USA Today

6 p.m. Budweiser Shootout Driver's and Crew Chief Meeting

Johnson: "This meeting is held before each race so that NASCAR fills the drivers and crew chiefs in on the track rules."

7:50 p.m. Driver introductions for the Budweiser Shootout

Johnson: "It's cool when they make a big deal out of intros like they do here. It was similar to The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway."

8:11 p.m. Invocation

8:12 p.m. National Anthem, sung by country group SheDaisy

8:15 p.m. Command to start engines

8:23 p.m. Green flag for the Budweiser Shootout

8:50 p.m. Completion of first 20-lap segment in Budweiser Shootout

Johnson: "We led the first four laps and had a great race car."

8 55 p.m. Interview with FOX

9 p.m. Restart Budweiser Shooutout, a 50-lap sprint to the finish

10 p.m. Completion of race

Johnson: "I had a lot of fun with my first Bud Shootout and learned a lot. Hopefully we can apply it to the Gatorade 125's and the (Daytona) 500."

10:01 p.m. Post-race media interviews

10:15 p.m. Change into street clothes

10:20 p.m. Drive back to the condo

11 p.m. Bedtime
