DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - For Jimmie Johnson, day four of 12 was supposed to mark his attempt to repeat as Daytona 500 Bud Pole winner. But when a relentless downpour postponed the qualifying session, Johnson opted to go shopping instead.

8:01 a.m. -- Looked out the window and saw the rain

8:02 a.m. -- Went back to sleep

8:30 a.m. -- Woke up again

8:45 a.m. -- Worked out

10 a.m. -- Showered and got ready

11:15 a.m. -- Called Chad Knaus to get an update on the rain situation

Johnson: "Obviously, Chad let me know that qualifying was going to be delayed because of rain."

Noon -- Went shopping at various locations in Daytona Beach

Johnson: "I just picked up some DVDs and CDs for the week. I need something to do while it's pouring outside."

3:15 p.m. -- Got the call that Qualifying had been cancelled until 1 p.m. Monday

Johnson: "NASCAR rescheduled qualifying for tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain all week. So hopefully the rain will hold off and we can get it in."

5:30 p.m. -- Went for dinner

7:30 p.m. -- Returned to the condo

8 p.m. -- Arrived at the condo and relaxed for a bit

8:30 p.m. -- Went out to a couple of places with Casey Mears

11 p.m. -- Bedtime

Johnson: "A rainy day in Daytona means that you try and find things to do away from the track. The thing that I learned last season, you don't want to do a lot of things, because you have to pace yourself and not over commit and wear yourself down.

"So, it was nice to get a break, but at this point in the season, I really didn't need one. I would have preferred a rain delay during the 20-week stretch."
