Jimmie Johnson's Daytona Diary: Tuesday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Having gotten through qualifying safely on Monday, Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus focus on drafting during Day 6 at Daytona. Luckily, they ran out of gas during the final fuel mileage run just before disaster struck.

Tuesday, February 12

8 a.m. -- Awoke up and saw that it was sunny...nice!

8:10 a.m. -- Worked out

"I did a little running, but mostly I just lifted a few weights and rode the stationary bike."

9:30 a.m. -- Started getting ready

10 a.m. -- Departed for the racetrack

10:30 a.m. -- Arrived at Daytona International Speedway

10:45 a.m. -- Conducted a phone interview with the Associated Press

10:55 a.m. -- Departed for a media center press conference for Team Lowe's Racing

"There is so much going on during the 11 days in Daytona, including a lot of media requests for Chad (Knaus) and me, that we try and set up a time to visit the media center and chat with the media.

"This session allows the media an opportunity to get time with us and get their story needs completed and, for the most part, it allows Chad and me to concentrate on the Lowe's Chevy and not have to worry about media requests during practice sessions and times that we need to work on the Monte Carlo."

11 - 11:30 a.m. -- Press conference at the media center

11:30 a.m. -- Back to the Lowe's hauler to change for practice

12 - 1 p.m. -- Practice

"There was an accident during practice that I was close to being involved in. We were working on long runs and seeing what type of fuel mileage we could expect during the race when we started to run out of fuel while running with the No. 38, No. 99, No. 4 and No. 00. We run out of fuel and started to fall back one lap before the accident happened. Sometimes it is better to be lucky then good."

1 - 1:15 p.m. -- Chat with Chad and Jeff Gordon about practice and how the Monte Carlo's were running.

1:30 p.m. -- Changed into street clothes

1:45 - 4 p.m. -- Casey Mears and I drove around Daytona on a couple of motorcycles.

4 p.m. -- Left the track to head back to the condo.

5:30 p.m. -- Left for a PRN interview at Volusia Mall with Jeff Gordon

6 p.m. -- Arrived at Volusia Mall

"It was good to see the fans at the mall, there was a great turnout. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a good buddy of mine who just got in to town. I hadn't seen him since I went to the Super Bowl when I went home to San Diego earlier this year."

6:05 - 6:15 p.m. -- Interviewed on PRN

6:15-6:30 p.m. -- Signed autographs for fans at the mall and outside

"Signing autographs for fans at events like this are perfect times to get my autograph."

6:30 p.m. -- Drove back to condo

6:45 p.m. -- Arrived at condo

6:45 - 7:15 p.m. -- Got ready for a dinner party

7:15 - 7:30 p.m. -- Drove to the party

7:30 - 9 p.m. -- Attended party

9:15 p.m. -- Headed back to condo

9:30 p.m. -- Arrived at condo

9:30 - 11 p.m. -- Relaxed a bit before bed

11 p.m. -- Bedtime
