Nadeau was upgraded from serious but stable to fair condition Thursday afternoon at Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.

Nadeau has been moved out of intensive care to a private room, according to a statement from Nadeau's spokesman. Doctors say Nadeau's vital signs are normal and he continues to show improvement.

Mike Wallace was named the interim driver for MB2 Motorsports while Nadeau recovers. His first race is the Winston Open next weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
