Crash breaks three bones in Elliott's foot

CONCORD, N.C. -- Bill Elliott suffered three broken bones in the top of his left foot after a crash in the second segment of The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Elliott was involved in a multi-car crash late in the second segment, triggered when Tony Stewart tapped Terry Labonte going into turn 1. Several cars piled in, and Elliott slammed into the melee.

Elliott was awake and alert when he was taken to University Hospital in Charlotte, where X-rays revealed the extent of his injury.

Elliott started on The Winston pole for the fifth time but did not lead a lap, as he was passed by Kevin Harvick at the drop of the green flag.

Officially, Elliott won $116,004 for finishing 16th.

His status for next weekend's Coca-Cola 600 is unknown.
