LONG POND, Pa. -- Pennzoil Products will end a six-season primary sponsorship agreement with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated and its No. 1 Chevrolet team at the end of the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup season, the team announced Saturday at Pocono Raceway.

Pennzoil joins Citgo and Sirius as Winston Cup sponsors that have recently announced they will not return with their current teams for the 2004 season.

Pennzoil, a petroleum products corporation based in Houston, Texas, became DEI's first full-time Winston Cup sponsor in 1998, backing driver Steve Park.

Park was fired in May and Jeff Green is currently in the midst of a deal to drive the No. 1 Monte Carlo through September.

Pennzoil, a Winston Cup primary sponsor since 1991, got its only two Winston Cup victories courtesy of Park, at Watkins Glen, N.Y., in August 2000 and Rockingham, N.C., in February 2001.

"Like Dale Earnhardt, Inc., Pennzoil has been through a lot of changes since we first signed our agreement in the fall of 1997," said Ty Norris, DEI's executive vice president of motorsports. "We promised to win races for Pennzoil, and we did.

"They promised to support Dale Earnhardt, Inc. through the growing pains of a new operation, and they did. Pennzoil will always have a place in the history of Dale Earnhardt, Inc."
