Two competitors were forced to backup cars early into the first practice.
Ricky Craven, from nearby Newburgh, Maine, spun coming out of Turn 4 and made contact with the wall on the frontstretch, suffering extensive damage to the front end and right rear of his No. 32 Pontiac.
Moments later, Dave Blaney spun in nearly the exact same spot on the track, suffering damage to the nose of his No. 77 Ford.
"I hit something and I'm going to say it was oil because it felt slicker than water," Blaney said. "The car just shot around on me. It definitely just shot around too quick like there was oil, but there was something on the track."
Scott Wimmer also spun into the grass on the backstretch in the early session, but suffered no noticeable damage and continued on.
The only incident in Happy Hour involved front-row qualifier Terry Labonte, who scraped the wall after an apparent brake problem about 10 minutes into the day's final session.
Labonte suffered light right-side damage and his team decided to fix the car rather than forfeit its starting spot by going to a backup.
