Green, an Owensboro, Ky., native, replaces rookie Larry Foyt, who continues to suffer from a kidney bruise suffered in an accident at Talladega two weeks ago, according to a Foyt team spokesman. Doctors advised Foyt to sit out the next two weeks, meaning he'll return to the car for Atlanta.

Foyt has been mired in a difficult stretch in which he's failed to qualify for 13 Winston Cup races this season, including five of the last six.

Green, the younger brother of Busch Series championship leader David Green, has served the past couple seasons as a driver coach and consultant to Foyt.

Mark Green's regular job this season has been as a shock specialist and driver coach at Akins Motorsports, working with promising newcomer Kasey Kahne.

He has also made three Busch Series starts.
