CONCORD, N.C. -- Doug Richert, crew chief for Greg Biffle, went to a local hospital Friday after complaining of pain in his chest, a team spokesman said.

Richert went to the Lowe's Motor Speedway infield care center Friday afternoon and then was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Roush Racing spokesman Patrick Rogers said doctors expect Richert to be back for Saturday's UAW-GM Quality 500.

"(Charlotte neurosurgeon Dr. Jerry Petty) said he didn't see any reason why he wouldn't be back tomorrow," Rogers said. "But they're going to keep him overnight."

Richert joined Biffle's team in August, replacing Randy Goss. Richert had previously worked with Roush's truck team and driver Carl Edwards.

Car chief Mike Hillman Jr. helped lead the team Friday, and Ford Racing's Robin Pemberton also stepped in and helped the team.

Biffle was sixth-fastest in Friday's lone practice at 180.505 mph.
