NEW YORK - Matt Kenseth spent Monday morning addressing a national television audience as part of NASCAR Championship Week in Manhattan, but in the afternoon chose instead to pay visits to the New York Police Dept. and the Fire Department of New York.

Kenseth, along with wife Katie, crew chief Robbie Reiser and several representatives from DeWalt, his primary sponsor, drove to the South Bronx to FDNY Engine 60, Ladder Company 17 to visit the firemen.

While there, Kenseth took several snap shots and shared war stories before he and Katie tested out the fire pole.

For the record: Both executed the 16-foot plummet to perfection.

During the visit, DeWalt donated some $40,000 in power tools to the company, including saws, drills, lights and grinders.

From there it was on to the 17th Precinct of the New York Police Department, where Kenseth met with policemen, signed autographs and handed out hats.

Several Winston Cup drivers have visited the police and fire stations in New York since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Kenseth, among others, have all come to Manhattan for such visits.
