One of the neat things about racing memorabilia is the fact that there are so many different items out there to collect. Here are responses to some of your inquiries about a variety of miscellaneous collectibles: Q: I have a full color 8" x 10" personally autographed by Cale Yarborough picture. It has a large picture of the No. 11 Monte Carlo. It is titled Holly Farms "Chicken Special" 1976. It has a small picture of Cale in the lower left hand side with his copy signature and in the lower right side a small picture of Junior Johnson with his copy signature. It has been in a glass frame and is not faded. For 28 years it is in very good to excellent condition. Please give me its worth. -- G. Baldwin A: This is the team handout for that year. I think the car is actually a Chevelle Laguna S-3, rather than a Monte Carlo. The handout is worth $12-20. The autograph adds another $15-20 to the value. | | EMAIL | Got a collectible question? Q: Could you please tell me what a Case Commemorative Bowie Knife Dale Earnhardt -- "The Intimidator Rolls A 7" is worth? It came out in 1996. This particular one if No. 611 of only 1000 that was made. -- Amy A: Great knife here. This Stag Bowie has a collectible value of $800-900. A really nice collectible. Q: I Have the Earnhardt Oreo shelves from 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. They are the shelves that held the Oreos in stores. The one from 2001 has Dale Sr on it. The rest have Dale Jr. and others on them. I was wondering what they might be worth. -- Playnet2000 A: Actually, there isn't a big demand for this type of item among the general collecting public. However, a die-hard Earnhardt fan might see a lot of value in it. Personally, I'd put the value at $25-35. Q: I have a six-pack of Coca-Cola glass bottles featuring Dale Earnhardt & Dale Jr. on the labels (which are painted on, not plastic wraps.) The glass bottles are in the original cardboard carrier and are circa 1996. Could you give me an idea as to worth? -- Eileen A: These bottles were released in 1999. They are worth $10-15 apiece, making your six-pack worth $60-90. Q: I have an old Pepsi racing hat, never worn, in perfect shape, signed by Steve Park, Dave Marcis, Steve Grissom and Ricky Craven. I was just wondering if you know about the value of the hat, or an estimate. -- Gregory Miller A: The true value lies in the autographs. The make the hat worth around $40-45. Q: I have a Pepsi 400 program from July 4, 1992. It is in mint condition. That was Richard Petty's last Daytona race. How much is it worth? -- Drovernite2 A: Still fairly easy to come by. The value is $15-18. Q: I have a 1995 Kelloggs' Corn Flakes box. It is the Dale Earnhardt 7-Time Winston Cup Champion commemorative box. It has never been filled with cereal; still folded flat from printing. How much is it worth? -- BMJ Hyson A: Cereal boxes differ from most collectibles in that they don't necessarily have to be just like they came from the store to retain their value. As long as they are in good shape, boxes are worth the same if they are full of cereal, full of paper or other stuffing, or-like yours-still flat like it came off the printer. The value of this box is $35-50. Q: I have a 1958 program and newspaper from Daytona Beach. The paper shows qualifying and the paper from Feb. 24,1958 shows Paul Goldsmith winning the 160-mile NASCAR Grand National race. How do I find the value of these items? -- JDF3 A: If the program is in good condition, it is worth $150-200. The newspaper is likely worth $20-35. Q I have a 2001 Budweiser shootout poster featuring a picture of both Dale Sr. and Jr. In block letters it has Earnhardt vs. Earnhardt along with the names of the other drivers in the event, the date, location and TV network. Any idea of value? -- Charles Blake A: This poster hasn't started to really realize its potential appreciation yet. Right now, it is probably worth $10-15. Look for that to increase in coming years. Q: I am hoping you can help me with the valuation of a certain NASCAR item that I possess. It is a 1954 NASCAR stat book about 1/4 of an inch thick. I had it autographed by Richard Petty-authentic. This book is about 8" high and 5" wide. It is golden yellow in color with a few stock cars going around a track on the front. It is full of photos of drivers from the era like Lee Petty with all of their stats. It is published by NASCAR. It is also autographed by other drivers but I cannot make out the names. If you can help me out with this I would appreciate it since I would like to put the appropriate insurance on it. -- Ken Jones A: Actually Ken, I collect NASCAR Record Books. I bought a copy of the 1954 edition on eBay a few months ago for $36 and some change. I've seen one or two sell for under $30 on rare occasions, and I've seen some sell for well over $50. In terms of a collectible value, I personally think this book is worth $60-90. The Petty autograph adds another $25 to the value for people who like autographs. To others who prefer it in mint condition, it might actually detract from the value. |
