In 1988, the release of the inaugural MAXX Race Cards set ushered in the era of prosperity now enjoyed by the racing collectibles industry. Trading cards remain one of the hobby's most popular commodities. Consequently, we get plenty of questions about these cardboard collectibles. Here are the responses to some of your inquiries:

Q: How much is my 1994 Action Packed, Inc. Dale Earnhardt "Poised to Strike" card number 30G, 24-carat gold racing card worth?-- Sid

A: Nice card. It should be worth $20-30.

Q: I have a 1993 J.R. Maxx, Inc. card in mint condition. The card is a Davey Allison Maxx Collector Series number 1 of 20 and is signed. Could you please tell me how much it may be worth? -- Kimbo

A: I think this is a card from the 1993 Texaco team set. The signed Allison cards were rare inserts. I'd place the value at $75-100.

Q: I have a Jeff Gordon card by Traks where he's wearing a Carolina Ford Dealers uniform. It has his 1991 stats on back. Any info on this? --Kelly C.

A: This is Jeff's first NASCAR trading card. It is worth $20-25 in mint condition.

Q: I have two cards that I would like to know the value of. One is a Darrell Waltrip 2000 Press Pass Premium card that is autographed by him, and the other card is a Bobby Labonte 2003 Wheels card that is autographed also. Both cards are common cards. -- Brad

A: As always with signed common cards, the value lies in the autographs. You are probably looking at a value of $20-30 per card.

Q: I recently found a set of 1991 Traks racing cards in some things I inherited. I was wondering if you could give me any idea what they are worth? -- Patrick

A: This was the inaugural Traks set. It is worth $30-35.

Q: I have a 1991 MAXX No. 187 Dale Earnhardt Talladega win card. It's in great shape. Could you tell me how much it is worth? -- Fern

A: A pretty common card here. It is worth $3-5.

Q: I have a 1995 Donruss Jeff Gordon cup card is it worth anything? -- Joann

A: Not a real significant card here, but not seen that often either. It's likely worth $5-8.

Q: I saw the question posted about the three-card Dale Earnhardt Sun Drop set. You said it was made by Action Packed, but I have a set and the copyright says Pinnacle Brands, Inc. No date is shown. I have read a lot about lawsuits with that company. Does that affect the value of these cards? Do you know how many were produced? I have looked for info on these and can't find them anywhere. -- Janet

A: Actually, it's all the same company. Pinnacle acquired Action Packed in 1995-the same year the Sun Drop set was produced and inserted into specially-marked packages of the soft drink. No production numbers for the standard issue cards were ever released. However, 500 signed versions of each card were randomly inserted. Any litigation concerning the manufacturer has no bearing on the value of these cards. They should be worth $30-35, maybe as much as $50 to the right person.

Q: I have a 1996 No. 6 Mark Martin Watkins Glen Viper Card (No. 37). It has a silver viper with orange eyes on the front and Mark Martin with a trophy that says "Bud at the Glen August 13th, 1995 WINNER Watkins Glen International." How much is it worth? -- Ben

A: Wheels came up with some really creative themes in the mid-1990s. This is a nice-albeit common-card. The value is likely $1-3.

Q: I recently purchased a 1996 Racing for Kids 1:24 Action die-cast car. In the box was an Pinnacle Action Packed 24k gold card with Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon. It was one of 5000 made. I was wondering if this had any value?

A: This was a cool promotion by Racing For Kids Magazine. The value of the car and card together is likely $50-60.
