History captured in Action's RCR Museum series

The days of an owner coming into NASCAR with very little funding and building a championship-winning organization are long gone. In fact, save for the late Alan Kulwicki, Richard Childress is only man to accomplish the feat in decades.

The many successes of Richard Childress Racing have been well-documented, and much of the team's legacy is on display at the spacious RCR Museum. Located at the Childress compound in Welcome, N.C., the 47,000-square foot facility is home to more than four dozen of the most significant rides in motorsports history.

Those racers are being replicated in die-cast as part of Action Performance's RCR Museum Series. Available in both 1:64 and 1:32 scales, this unique collection launched in early 2004, with more than 10 different cars being announced to date.

Each car in the 1:32 scale RCR Museum program features an opening hood and trunk, and detailed engine, as well as a serialized production number in the rear window and the RCR logo inkjetted on the chassis. Also included is the RCR set up sheet detailing the exact chassis components, comments by the driver and crew chief and unique notes specific to RCR and that particular race.

"I went up to the RCR Museum, and as I walked through, I was in awe of how much history was there," explained Action president, chairman and CEO Fred Wagenhals. "I thought it might be neat to go back and find some history on each of the cars in the museum, starting with the set-up sheets. Richard still had the set up sheets for every car that ran, so we incorporated that into the program."

Die-casts already available feature seven time NASCAR Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt. Among the cars are:

  • 1997 No. 3 Dale Earnhardt AC-Delco (Japan) Monte Carlo

  • 1998 No. 3 Dale Earnhardt GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo (Daytona 500 Winner)

  • 2000 No. 3 Dale Earnhardt Peter Max Monte Carlo
  • 2000 No. 3 Dale Earnhardt GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo (Talladega Win)
  • "This will be an ongoing series," said Wagenhals. " Our goal is to eventually replicate all of the race cars that Richard Childress ever owned and raced."

While the majority of all of the cars have already been replicated in a variety of scales and styles, the Museum collection showcases new upgrades to Action's standard 1:32 scale, as well as program-specific packaging.

The RCR Museum Series will afford collectors a chance to own some of the hobby's most significant die-casts that may have missed when previously released.

"It's a totally unique series," said Wagenhals, "but collectors who may not have gotten some of the Dale Earnhardt RCR cars the first time around now have a chance to own them."
