Marlin die-cast has plenty of 'horsepower'

A thoroughbred die-cast? You bet.

Action Performance is building a commemorative die-cast replica of the special Kentucky Derby 130 paint scheme that will be featured on Sterling Marlin's No. 40 Coors Light Dodge in this Sunday's Aaron's 499 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

"I think it is a neat paint scheme idea," Marlin said. "Coors is involved in so many other sporting events and venues that it is great when they can showcase more than one."

The stock car race takes place less than a week before the 130th running of the world's most famous horse race. The storied event has been staged each and every year since 1875.

The program is a collaboration between Action, Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, NASCAR and Coors.

"There are no more exciting moments in sports than a nose-to-nose duel down the homestretch at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day and a breathtaking battle for the checkered flag in a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race," said Tyrone Tubbs, vice president of sales for Churchill Downs.

"Those unforgettable experiences come together beautifully in this limited edition adult specialty die-cast of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge that will honor the 130th running of the Kentucky Derby in NASCAR Nextel Cup competition on April 25 at Talladega Superspeedway. Many fans of the Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred racing are also devoted NASCAR fans, and we're very pleased to join with such distinguished corporate partners as Coors Light and Action Performance to offer all adult sports fans a unique and memorable collectible that honors two of America's greatest sports traditions."

This isn't the first time a NASCAR stocker has been used to promote "The Run For The Roses." Five years ago, native Kentuckian Jeremy Mayfield drove a Penske-Kranefuss Ford celebrating the 125th installment of the race. That car was also replicated by Action, and is one of the most coveted Mayfield collectibles.
