About Richard Childress Racing

The 2004 NASCAR Cup Series marks the 35th Anniversary of Richard Childress Racing. RCR began as a one-race opportunity for Childress at the inaugural race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 1969. It rose to prominence in the mid-1980s with the legendary Dale Earnhardt behind the wheel of the black No. 3 GM Goodwrench Service Chevrolet, earning six NASCAR Cup Series championships from 1986 through 1994. RCR was the first organization to earn championships in all three of NASCAR's premier series (Cup, Busch and Truck) and, to date, has earned nine championships, more than 130 victories and has grown into one of the premier organizations in motorsports history.

RCR currently fields three teams full time in the NASCAR Cup Series, with Harvick, Robby Gordon and Dave Blaney. It also fields two teams full time in the NASCAR Busch Series, with driver Ron Hornaday, and Harvick and newcomer Clint Bowyer sharing driving duties for the other team. It also fields a part-time NASCAR Cups Series team for Kerry Earnhardt, the eldest son of Dale Earnhardt, and an exciting five race NASCAR Busch Series program featuring some of NASCAR's biggest stars.

About Kevin Harvick

2001 Winston Cup Rookie-of-the Year Kevin Harvick has always had a love for racing. Growing up in sunny Bakersfield, Calif., he got his start in racing at the age of five driving go-carts at local tracks. During his 1999 season in the NASCAR Truck Series Richard Childress took notice of him. The six-time Winston Cup championship owner signed the young 24-year old to lead his newly established NASCAR Busch Series program in 2000, and the rest is history.

After capturing the 2000 Busch Series Rookie-of-the-Year honors and finishing third in the points, Harvick was in search of a Busch Series championship in 2001. Tragedy struck during the first race of the NASCAR Winston Cup season, and he was thrust in to the limelight as the replacement for the legendary Dale Earnhardt in the GM Goodwrench Chevrolet. Despite the tremendous pressure, Harvick pressed on with the backing of Richard Childress Racing and attempted something no driver had done before - compete in both series full time. As if accomplishing that feat wasn't enough in itself, he went on to capture the Busch Series championship as well as Winston Cup Rookie-of-the-Year honors. Harvick amassed two Winston Cup and five Busch Series victories over 70 events, and became the first driver to finish in the top-10 in points in both series in the same year.

In 2003, Harvick completed one of the most successful runs in three years in NASCAR's elite level. He finished in the top-five in the championship point standings for the first time with 11 top-five and 18 top-10 runs, both career highs. He also won the prestigious Brickyard 400 from the pole. Something no other NASCAR driver has done in the 10-year history of the event.

2004 will be even more exciting for Harvick and his GM Goodwrench racing team. They know they have what it takes to make a successful run for the championship, and it's no surprise these guys want it more than anyone else.
