Nazareth Speedway to close after 2004 season

NAZARETH, Pa. (AP) -- Nazareth Speedway will close after the 2004 season.

International Speedway Corporation plans to move the speedway's NASCAR Busch and IRL IndyCar series events to other tracks, raceway president Craig Rust said Friday on the track's Web site.

Rust said this month's NASCAR Busch race and an IRL race in August will run as scheduled.

"We believe we can grow Nazareth's events more quickly by realigning them to other facilities within the ISC family beginning next year," the track said.

The track, about 50 miles north of Philadelphia, sometimes hosts driving schools, Boy Scout jamborees and other events. Track spokeswoman Eiron Jones said she did not know whether such events will continue.
