Ward Burton: Chevy 400 preview

From Team Press Release May 12, 2004
12:45 PM EDT (1645 GMT)

RICHMOND, Va. -- Ward Burton will make his 332nd NASCAR Nextel Cup Series start when the green flag drops for the Chevy American Revolution 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

"We had the opportunity to test at Richmond last week and the track is really smooth and fast and has a ton of grip now. We spent the first day in race trim and were really happy with the results. The tires never gave up and we were running some of our fastest laps many laps into the run.

"We struggled a bit on the second day when we ran qualifying laps, so that's what we had to take a look at when we got back to the shop. Hopefully we made some of the right changes to the car and we'll turn some faster laps when we get out there on Friday and get the chance to get the NetZero Chevrolet back into qualifying trim and out on the track.

"As far as Saturday night goes, it's always fun to race at night, for both the drivers and the fans. Richmond is a great track to race on. I think the second groove will come in once we get some laps on the new pavement and we'll have a lot of passing and side by side racing like we usually do. This is a track that everyone seems to like because it's just a fun little track to race on."
