From Team Press Release September 23, 2004 02:03 PM EDT (18:03 GMT)
Jeremy Mayfield has made 20 starts at Dover with four top-five and six top-10 finishes at the track. He earned his best finish of second after starting 28th last fall. He has led four races for 208 laps. "I'm definitely looking forward to Dover. We got caught up in someone else's mess last weekend, so we're excited to get right back to a racetrack that we feel really good about. We started on the pole and led a lot of laps here in the spring, and we finished second in this race last year. We know we've got a great Dodge coming back here, and we're going to pick up right where we left off in June. This team hasn't give up all year, and they're not going to give up now. We've been knocked down before, but we bounced back. "Track position is everything at Dover. The guy that starts up front has got the lead and has got clean air all day. That's just where we want to be." Mayfield earned his second Dover pole -- the eighth of his career -- in June. Mayfield lapped the speedway in 22.288 seconds, 161.522 mph. He broke Rusty Wallace's track-qualifying record of 22.505 seconds, 159.964 mph, set Sept. 24, 1999. The qualifying record was the second of three records set by Evernham Motorsports this season. |
