Lap by Lap: Subway 500

The following is a lap-by-lap account of the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway:

Lap 500: Checkered flag. Jimmie Johnson has won the Subway 500.

Lap 499: White flag. Jamie McMurray gets by Ryan Newman for second place.

Lap 494: Rusty Wallace makes a move on Jimmie Johnson, but gets spun out and shuffled back by his teammate, Ryan Newman. Newman moves into second place.

Lap 493: Restart. Jimmie Johnson is the leader.

Lap 488: Another caution. Spin by Carl Edwards and Robby Gordon.

Lap 485: Green flag. Jimmie Johnson leads. Rusty Wallace is in hot pursuit.

Lap 475: Caution. Joe Nemechek gets spun, then Elliott Sadler crashes into hhim.

Lap 472: Restart. Jimmie Johnson is the leader, followed by Rusty Wallace and Ryan Newman.

Lap 467: Another caution. Kyle Petty spins and gets hit by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt heads to the garage.

Lap 456: Green flag. Jimmie Johnson leads.

Lap 450: Caution is out for a spin by Elliott Sadler.

Lap 443: Light rain reported on windshields.

Lap 440: Jimmie Johnson passes Sterling Marlin to take the lead.

Lap 432: Dale Earnhardt Jr. is back out on the track, 17 laps down in 33rd place.

Lap 428: Restart. Sterling Marlin is the leader.

Lap 418: Another caution for Dale Earnhardt Jr. He heads to the garage.

Lap 416: Green flag. Sterling Marlin is the leader.

Lap 411: Most of the leaders pit. Sterling Marlin stays out and takes the lead. Several cars get bunched up exiting the pits, including Kasey Kahne, Jeff Burton, Jamie McMurray and Mark Martin.

Lap 408: On the way out of the pits, Dale Earnhardt Jr. plows into Dale Jarrett bringing out caution.

Lap 406: Dale Earnhardt Jr, in for an unscheduled pit stop. right rear brake appears to be locked up.

Lap 405: Jimmie Johnson passes Jamie McMurray for the lead.

Lap 384: Jamie McMurray retakes the lead from Jeff Gordon.

Lap 378: Jeff Gordon passes Jamie McMurray for the lead.

Lap 377: Restart. Jamie McMurray leads.

Lap 371: Caution for Scott Wimmer. He spins.

Lap 361: Restart. Jamie McMurray leads.

Lap 356: The leaders go in for pit stops. Jimmie Johnson is first off pit road. Jamie McMurray is the race leader.

Lap 354: Bobby Labonte and Ken Schrader bounce off each other, bringing out caution. Several other cars have damage, including Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Lap 336: Restart after a long caution for clean-up. Kevin Harvick leads.

Lap 321: Caution for a spin by Scott Riggs.

Lap 298: Restart. Kevin Harvick is the leader, followed by Kurt Busch and Rusty Wallace.

Lap 294: Terry Labonte, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Green wreck on pit road. Kevin Harvick is first off pit road.

Lap 293: Pit stops under way.

Lap 291: Caution for a spin by Carl Edwards.

Lap 271: Leaders Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch lap five-time Martinsville winner Jeff Gordon.

Lap 250: Kevin Harvick creeps past Kurt Busch for the lead in heavy traffic at the halfway point.

Lap 202: Green flag. Kurt Busch leads.

Lap 187: Kurt Busch is the leader once again after pit stops.

Lap 185: Most of the field goes in for pit stops.

Lap 183: Caution is out. Kyle Petty spins out with help from Travis Kvapil.

Lap 132: Kurt Busch has moved into the lead. Tony Stewart is second and Rusty Wallace is third.

Lap 114: Restart. Sterling Marlin leads.

Lap 110: Sterling Marlin is the race leader, followed by Jamie McMurrray and Brian Vickers. They did not pit under this caution.

Lap 109: Most of the field comes in for pit stops. Kurt Busch makes it off pit road first, followed by Tony Stewart and Rusty Wallace. Dale Jarrett is in the garage.

Lap 106: Caution is out for a wreck involving Matt Kenseth, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Hamilton Jr. and Casey Mears. Kenseth nudges Jarrett into a spin. Hamilton and Mears crash into Jarrett.

Lap 91: Tony Stewart moves into the lead. Kurt Busch takes second and Ryan Newman is running third.

Lap 83: Green flag. Terry Labonte remains in the lead.

Lap 76: Robby Gordon spins out after some contact from Ricky Rudd. The leaders nearly hit him before the caution flag is thrown.

Lap 72: Green flag. Terry Labonte leads.

Lap 68: Terry Labonte is the leader once agin after Kasey Kahne went in for a pit stop.

Lap 65: Caution flag. Robby Gordon goes for a spin after contact from Kyle Petty.

Lap 63: Ricky Rudd spins out and falls back in line. No caution.

Lap 51: Kasey Kahne passes Terry Labonte to take the lead.

Lap 48: Green flag. Restart. Terry Labonte leads.

Lap 43: Terry Labonte is the leader. He did not pit.

Lap 42: Almost the entire field comes in for pit stops.

Lap 41: At this point, only No. 37 Kevin Lepage and No. 50 Todd Bodine have dropped out of the race.

Lap 40: Ricky Rudd does a 360 to bring out caution. Jeff Green got into the back of him.

Lap 22: Green flag. Rusty Wallace is the leader. Jeff Gordon reporting a problem with the throttle.

Lap 16: Caution. Wreck involving Brendan Gaughan, Sterling Marlin and Jeremy Mayfield.

Lap 10: Rusty Wallace takes the lead from teammate Ryan Newman.

Lap 6: Restart. Ryan Newman leads.

Lap 3: Joe Nemechek spins out and hits the inside wall, suffering body damage. Kasey Kahne and Jimmy Spencer also have some damage due to the accordion effect.

Lap 1: Green flag. Ryan Newman leads the first lap.
