JOLIET, Ill. -- NASCAR drivers and other celebrities will have the opportunity to show off their multi-sport talents as they go to bat for Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Chicagoland Speedway, Victory Junction Gang Camp, the Joliet JackHammers and the City of Joliet have added a Celebrity Softball Challenge to the 2004 Joliet Fan Fest activities on Thursday, July 8.
NASCAR drivers Kyle Petty, current Nextel Cup Championship point leader - Kurt Busch, Elliott Sadler, Greg Biffle, Ken Schrader and Tim Fedewa are the first to confirm their participation in the charity softball game. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Tickets to the softball game go on sale beginning at 10 AM (CT) on Saturday, April 17 by calling the Joliet JackHammer Ticket Office at 815-726-2255.
The game will take place at Silver Cross Field which is located three miles north of Chicagoland Speedway in downtown Joliet. The state-of-the-art ballpark opened in 2002 and has a seating capacity of 4,616, but Silver Cross Field can hold more than 7,000 fans including the General Admission areas (grassy hills). Baseball America recently ranked Silver Cross Field as the 2nd best of the 66 ballparks in the independent classification of professional baseball.
The charity game will run similar to a typical softball game, but with additional entertainment features for the players and fans. Racing related raffle items and prizes will be distributed to fans throughout the game. Auction tables with autographed racing memorabilia will also be available on the concourse level for fans to bid.
"There has been such wonderful support from the entire NASCAR community towards the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The softball game in Joliet is another great example of the drivers, teams, tracks and fans rallying for this great cause. The game should be a lot of fun for the drivers and fans alike," Kyle Petty.
